Our Story
A Family Legacy Since 1953
Tropical Treat began its journey in 1953 when Clint Crabbs and his wife Vesta opened a small roadside ice cream stand.
In 1962, the business took two major steps forward. They added the classic drive-in service, complete with carhops delivering orders directly to vehicles. That same year, they introduced the iconic creation: the “Fat Boy” sandwich. A hearty double-decker burger, layered with all the classic fixings and topped with the restaurant’s signature “pink” sauce. To this day, the Fat Boy remains the star of the menu, drawing in customers near and far who crave its distinctive flavor.
In 1967, Clint and Vesta decided to pass the torch, selling the business to his brother-in-law Maurice (Ike) Myers and his wife Mary (Clint’s Sister). They embraced the restaurants traditions while continuing to grow its reputation as a go-to spot for burgers, fries, shakes, and the unforgettable Fat Boy.
The next chapter came in 1994, when Ike and Mary’s son, Dan Myers, along with his wife Barb, took over the operation. Dan and Barb preserved the classic recipes and drive-in charm while adapting to changing times. They kept the restaurant thriving as a multi-generational gathering place.
In 2020, it was passed once again — this time to Dan and Barb’s son, Shawn Myers, and his wife Rebecca. As the current owners, Shawn and Rebecca continue the family’s commitment to quality food and friendly service. They honor the legacy while keeping the business vibrant for new generations of customers.
What truly sets the Tropical Treat apart is its deep family roots of four generations. Over the decades countless family members have worked behind the counter, in the kitchen, and at the drive-in window. We have also been blessed with numerous loyal employees over many generations that have made us what we are today.
We also want to thank all of our customers who continue to support us every year allowing us to continue our family legacy.
